The brush holder locates the starter brushes against the commutator and keeps them under spring pressure so current can flow into the armature. A worn, cracked or shorted brush holder causes slow cranking, intermittent starting or a starter that won't turn at all. The SBH9006 suits Briggs & Stratton small-engine starters, with cross-references for Kohler, Onan, Mercury Marine and OMC outboard equipment.

Check the old holder against the listed dimensions and cross-reference numbers before fitting. Replace worn brushes at the same time and inspect the commutator for wear or scoring. Disconnect the battery before removing the starter motor.
