A normally open relay connects terminal 30 to 87 when its coil (85/86) is energised, so a low-current switch can safely control a high-current load such as driving lamps, horns, fans or pumps. The built-in diode suppresses the voltage spike when the coil switches off, protecting electronic switches and control modules.

Wiring: 30 to fused battery positive, 87 to the load, 86 to the switched positive and 85 to earth. Check the pin layout against your old relay before fitting.
