The regulator controls the alternator's field current so charging voltage stays within spec as engine speed and electrical load change. A faulty regulator can cause overcharging, undercharging, a flickering battery warning light, or damage to the battery and electronics.

This regulator uses LIN communication with the engine ECU, so it must match the original's LIN ID and protocol. Confirm the voltage and cross-reference numbers against your original unit before fitting, and disconnect the battery before working on the alternator.
