Gates V-belts use a fibre-loaded neoprene (polychloroprene) compound for heat and wear resistance, moulded notches that reduce bending stress around small pulleys, and form-ground sidewalls for a precise fit in the pulley groove. In the Gates size code, 13A is the 13mm top width and 1145 is the 1145mm belt length.

Replace belts that are cracked, glazed or frayed, and set tension to the maker's specification - an over-tight belt wears bearings, a loose one squeals and slips.
